Make a date with Loverboy on Saturday

1980s group Loverboy will turn on the charm at the Lewis Family Playhouse on Saturday.

Loverboy is known for hits like 1981’s “Working For The Weekend,” 1980’s “Turn Me Loose,” 1983’s “Hot Girls in Love” and 1985’s “Lovin’ Every Minute of It.”

In a June 2007 interview, lead singer Mike Reno was asked if there was anything he would change about his career.

“In all honesty, out of sheer desperation for some free time, I left Paul (Dean, guitarist) the reigns for a few years and he kind of went off and just focused on his guitar thing and we all just kind of went “OK, whatever.” That was a mistake that I will admit to. And I am NOT criticizing Paul. I am criticizing myself.”

In November 2000, bassist Scott Smith died after he fell overboard in stormy waters off the San Francisco coast. The band decided to continue in 2001 with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve, who remains with the band.

Before Loverboy performs, the Lewis Family Playhouse will celebrate its fifth season with a free 7 to 8 p.m. performance by the Ravelers, along with cake and refreshments.

The Ravelers will play at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center, Bank of America Imagination Courtyard.
