JOE STEVENS: Poetic justice

This could be some type of odd poetic justice for the Clippers, heading to a Game 7 in Phoenix - the scene of a cornucopia of mistakes in the double-overtime loss in Game 5. Can they go to the same place, but this time eliminate the mistakes and actually win? We shall see...

Neither team has ever won two in a row against the other in either the playoffs or regular season...

Corey Maggette truly responded in Game 6. That guy is an athletic wonder...

In other news, I plan on doing more research on the Phoenix Suns' Gorilla. Why it that a gorilla is the mascot for a team called the Suns? This baffles me. The only thing the Suns' media guide told me about the Gorilla's history is that he signed with the Suns as a ''flea agent'' in 1980. If anyone knows how the Gorilla became the Suns' mascot, please let me know.

Their name is the Phoenix Suns. With the stiffling heat in Phoenix, is there even a gorilla in the local zoo?
Can't figure that mascot choice either.

I think that now is the right time to break the trend of neither team winning two in a row. Go Clippers!

This is the bio I found:

"Oldest of two chimps. ... Younger brother, Junior, signed a 10-day contract with the Suns on 4/19/94 to assist an injured Go. ... Father starred alongside Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes. ... All-time favorite movies are Congo, Gorillas in the Mist and Sense and Sensibilities. ... An artist who paints masterpieces under the assumed name of Van Go... The "Bo Jackson" of mascots, Go knows baseball, football, bungee jumping, jet skiing and swinging through trees. ... Official spokesape for the National Hair Club for Men. ... Go is single -- he's still looking for the right pri-mate."

go is also a hall of famer. same class as the chicken and the phanatic.

here's something from the scottsdale times:

So did he ever expect to be an NBA mascot? "Absolutely not," the Gorilla says.

"Back when I was 15 or 16, the San Diego Chicken was really coming on the TV at baseball games. My parents told me that's something I'd be good at. I thought it would be fun but never seriously considered it."

The Gorilla now takes his job quite seriously. His creativity and athletic ability have made him one of the most innovative mascots in the NBA. "Growing up I dabbled in wrestling, football and basketball, but gymnastics was my forte. I pursued that with a passion," he said.

it seems go had a love of gymnastics, and supportive parents, which must have led him quite naturally to become the suns mascot.
