Neighborhoods, USA (NUSA) announced it is taking appplications for its 2009 Best Neighborhood Program Awards.  In recent years, Long Beach neighborhoods have been a dominant force in the national competition which recognizes the outstanding work of grassroots neighborhood groups, government entities and businesses in ther efforts to improve the quality of life in their communities.  

The Best Neighborhood Program gives awards to programs implemented to improve neighborhoods by a governmental entity or business or corporation.  Best Neighborhood Program Awards are given in two categories: social revitalization and physical revitalization.  

Finalist will be invited to make presentations at the 2009 NUSA Conference May 21- 23 in  Spokane, Wash.

To compete, applicants must have completed a noteworthy neighborhood improvement project in 2008, and submit a completed application and fee postmarked by March 1, 2009.

Dear Greg,

I notice there is no mention of last years National Champions. They were the first NUSA National Champs from Long Beach. It only took 33 years from the beginning of NUSA to the present. Maybe that could have been mentioned. Also, they were from North Long Beach...Is that why the city isn't promoting NUSA so heavily this year?
