The Neighborhood Resource Center is developing its workshop training schedule for 2009 and is sending thanks to all who responded to a request for topics.
The NRC received 157 votes from residents and City employees. Since December 2000, the NRC says it has held 165 workshops with 5,588 participants. Residents can still call the center and share ideas.
So far, workshops on grant writing have received the most votes, followed by finding funding beyond grants and home improvement programs. However, those categories have only five and four votes, respectively. So the field is wide open.
In an e-mail to residents and community leaders, the NRC wrote this: "Please share with us any ideas of ways we can help your groups with your efforts. We welcome any ideas for potential workshop presenters that are available to volunteer their time to improve our neighborhoods. We are especially interested in any contacts you could recommend to be a part of our workshops to share how businesses can help support your neighborhood improvement efforts.
If you have any additional interests in additional trainings you would like to attend in 2009, please e-mail your list of workshop interests and any contacts to Scottie Hinkey at Sharron_Hinkey@longbeach.gov by Jan. 14. Not all of the recommended topics will be developed into a workshop so your input will help prioritize which workshops we will conduct in 2009.
