Student grant applicants sought

Applicants are sought for an all-expenses paid summit and workshop for high school student leaders in Washington D.C. and hosted by Bank of America. Here is a release on the program:

 

"Student Leaders Program
Bank of America Neighborhood Excellent Initiative

·        A week-long all expenses paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. to gain valuable civic, social and business leadership skills
·        An 8-week paid internship program at a local nonprofit
·        Learn how nonprofits, government and business can partner to create a positive impact on our communities
If you know a student with a passion for improving our community, Bank of America would like to help turn that passion into action and help shape the next generation of community leaders.

Student Leader Qualification Criteria:

·        Junior or senior in high school
·        Be able to participate in a week-long Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. in July 2011.
·        Be able to participate in an 8-week paid internship at a local nonprofit
·        Be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
·        Be a student in good standing at his/her school

Mosaic workshop and sale

The Second City Art Gallery and Performance Space  450 Alamitos Ave. is playing host to a mosaic workshop and a fund-raising sale Saturday Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mosaic artist, Dawn Mendelson will lead the workshop to create the mosaics until 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per person, $15 for a group of four.  No age limit. 
There will also be a sale of used art books, jewelry, instruments, paintings, 3D books, vintage clothing and other items. Proceeds will benefit the 2nd City Council and the Found Theatre.  Information is available by calling 562-901-0997.
  A press release for the event reads " 2cc provides the community with free year round quality art exhibitions, music and art workshop.   2cc also supports the dreams and good works of others. Past events at 2cc include a budding high school film director who raised money for equipment; a fashion and music evening by Poly high school teens to raise funds for the Invisible Children of Uganda; an art sale to purchase a much needed washer and dryer for LB homeless students; an environmental movie bike-in night for CSULB students and art workshops for LB adults in recovery."
