The May selection for the Independent Lens documentary film series at the Long Beach Public Library presented by the Central Area Association is "Shelbyville."

The film will be aired Tuesday, May 31, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the main branch of the Library, 101 Pacific Ave. After the screening there will be a panel discussion and question and answer session. The panelists will be Rev. Gary Commins, rector of St Luke's Episcopal Church, Sara Pol-Lim, executive director of United Cambodian Community, and Milia Islam-Majeed, executive Director of South Coast Interfaith Council.

The documentary, by award-winner Kim Snyder, tells the tale of a small, struggling  Tennessee Bible belt town in crisis and how it wrestles with the immigration and racial issues in the wake of an influx of Somali refugees as the 2008 Presidential election nears.
