The community is invited to the third annual Mother's Day Opera Concert, Sunday May 8, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bay Shore Church 5100 E. The Toledo.
The 95-minute concert is free but will be limited to 500 guests and a full house is expected. Reserved tickets will be held at will call and remaining tickets will be available at the door. Will call opens at 2:15, doors open at 2:30 p.m.
The concert will be followed by a free reception at the church's fellowship hall.
Performers will be soprano, Jacquelynne Fontaine, tenor, Joshua Guerrero, pianist Steven Vanhauwaert and guitarist Eva Beneke. Guitarist Eric Ross will perform at the reception and prior to the concert.
Fontaine was Miss California in 2006 and has sung in opera and with orchestras in Italy and the U.S. She is in the doctoral program at USC's Thornton School of Music. Guerrero is a student at the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA and sings both classical and pop music. Vanhauwaert studied piano in Brussels at the Royal Conservatory before moving to Los Angeles in 2004 where he studied at the Thornton School. In addition to playing with symphonies in the U.S. and Europe, he also plays jazz and improvisational music. Beneke is a German guitarist who studied at the Berlin University of Arts. She has won guitar competitions and honors in the U.S. and Europe and played with symphony orchestras both here and abroad. And she performed live on national television with Carrie Underwood at the American Country Music Awards in 2010.
The event is hosted by Justin Rudd and his nonprofit Community Action Team.
