Two Long Beach groups, Catalyst and Green Long Beach, which are dedicated to helping create a more environmental Long Beach, will play host to the third annual Green Long Beach Festival, Saturday, June 11 at the Promenade, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Organizers say the purpose of the festival is to open dialogue between citizens of Long Beach and to help connect and grassroots organizations in Long Beach.

Everyone has different ideals for what makes "Green and Sustainable Long Beach," organizers say, whether it's rooftop gardens or more bicycling opportunities.

The goal of the festival's organizers is to "ignite change" in Long Beach and help catalyze the Long Beach community to take action and open dialogue.

In a prepared statement, Tiffany Chen of the Festival said "We want to focus on bringing together people and encouraging connections and collaborations between people. We also want to make it accessible to people that are new to this movement (by) bridging the gap between newcomers and seasoned sustainability experts. We hope that this year we will have something for everyone. Whether your into vermiculture, or just need help figuring out a better system to organize your recyclables, we have something here for you."

"I'm excited about this year's festival, I think that it will be a good way for my business to showcase the ways we have improved our green practices, and also get ideas about how we can keep our business green, and also give support for a cause that is worth contributing to" said Mike Krokidas, general manager of CafĂ© Ambrosia.
