Long Beach Rescue Mission is launching its annual Back to School Backpack drive and seeks donations and volunteers to join the effort by Friday. Aug. 19.

Last year, the Mission, in collaboration with a number of groups, including fire and police, supplied more than 3,500 backpacks filled with supplies. The backpacks are given directly to the schools for distribution.

This year the Mission is hoping to buy and fill more than 3,000 backpacks.

Those who are interested in helping can donate any of the following itmes: new solid color backpacks, packets of college-ruled paper, two- and three-ring binders, Boxes of No. 2 pencils, boxes of blue, black and red pens, large erasers, pencil cases and sharpeners, 12-inch rulers and one subject notebooks.

Donations can be dropped off at the Mission at 1335 Pacific Ave, before
Aug. 19. Monetary donations for the drive can also be made and applied to the purchase of the packs and supplies. Information on donations to the Mission and volunteering is available online at  www.LBRM.org  or by phone to Denise
Carrillo at 562-591-1292 or volunteer@lbrm.org
