The gathering is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Good Neighbor Park, 2800 N. Studebaker Road.

"September is National Good Neighbor Month and an excellent way to bring 5th District neighbors together to celebrate the work of neighborhood organizations, community groups, and to learn more about the businesses and city services that make our area a great place to live and to work," said Schipske in a prepared statement..

Thirty-eight residents and organizations will be honored with a Good Neighbor Award for their contribution to the community over the past year, and 36 community organizations will provide informational materials, brochures and giveaways throughout the day.

The festival will feature performances by the Elm Street Band and Golden Sands Chorus.

Kids can play in a bounce house, have their faces painted, and get creative at the coloring station.

Other activities include a water balloon toss, paper airplane contest and trivia.

Goodwill of Southern Los Angeles County will provide secure document shredding and e-waste collection services.

This year's sponsors include the Port of Long Beach, the Long Beach Airport, the Long Beach Sam's Club, Willow Urgent Care, Signal Hill Petroleum, Long Beach Police Officers Association, Long Beach Firefighters Local 372 and Long Beach Lifeguard Association.
