Long Beach Dental Arts and dentist Steve Sutherland will be holding itheir third annual Halloween Candy Buy Back, Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dental Arts has five locations and two locally that will participate: the Long Beach office at 6226 E. Spring St. Ste. 200, and Somerset Family Dentistry, 9426 Somerset Blvd., in Bellflower.
The offices will be passing out prizes and hold raffles for children for their excess candy, which will then delivered to Operation Gratitude to be shipped to U.S. armed forces overseas.
According to Scott Sutherland, brother of dentist Steve, the dental group gathered 600 pounds of candy the first year of the buy back and 800 pounds last year among all its offices. In addition to delivering the candy, many children also addressed cards and letters to the troops.
In addition to promoting dental health, organizers says the candy buy back has the support of first-lady Michelle Obama's Partnership for Healthy America, which is battling childhood obesity in the U.S.
