deaf_jam.jpg  "Deaf Jam" a documentary about deaf teenager Aneta Brodski entering the slam poetry scene in New York using American Sign Language poetry, is the monthly documentary being showed at the Long Beach Main Branch Library. Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. at the library auditorium 101 Pacific Ave. auditorium.
According to press material on the film:
"In a remarkable twist of fate, Aneta, a deaf Israeli, meets and then collaborates with Tahani -- a hearing Palestinian slam poet. They create a hearing/deaf duet touching on their shared personal and cultural experiences -- generating a new form of slam poetry that speaks to both the hearing and the deaf."

A discussion and audience Q&A will follow the film. Panelists are to include Chuck Scarpaci, Director Sign Language & Interpreting Services Long Beach and Dickie Lewis of Deaf West Theatre in Los Angeles

The film is sponsored by ITVS Community Cinema, Long Beach Central Area Association/MusicUNTOLD and the Long Beach Public Library.
