The fourth annual "Honoring Those Who
Serve" luncheon will he held Friday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Hilton International Ballroom, at 701 W. Ocean Blvd. Tickets are $75 per person.
Louis Zamperini will be the keynote speaker. A local legend, Zamperini's story inspired Laura Hillenbrand, author of the best-selling and award-winning "Seabiscuit," to tell his tale in her second book. That book, "Unbroken," was also a No. 1 New York Times best seller and award winner.
Zamperini was an Olympic distance runner, POW and war hero. The Zamperini airfield in Torrance is named after the man called the "Torrance Tornado."
This year's Honoree is Damaso Sutis who became a U.S. Marine, fought at Iwo Jima and served 24 years in the Marines, spanning three wars.According to organizers, "The luncheon is an opportunity for all of us to join hands to honor America's veterans and our military for their love of country and their willingness to serve and sacrifice for the preservation of our freedoms. It will honor individuals who have made an impact in the lives of other veterans or active military members."
In addition to individual tickets, sponsorships are available by calling Linda Maldonado at 562-388-8015 or lmaldonado@usvetsinc.org. Information is also available at http://www.usvetsinc.org/2011/09/28/long-beach-luncheon/
