Residents are being urged to help two local groups that are finalists vying for funding from a national program sponsored by Pepsi.
Until Nov. 30, community members can go online and vote for projects they believe should receive funds. The Long Beach Boy Scouts are hoping to add a new kitchen to their Sea Base and the Long Beach Education Foundation wants to save middle school sports programs.

Help two of our local neighborhood groups to receive funding for their community improvement projects! In June 2011, the Neighborhood Resource Center shared information with the community about Pepsi Refresh Project grant program. Two of Long Beach's very own community groups are finalists! The Long Beach Education Foundation and the Boy Scouts of America, Long Beach Council are each eligible to receive $50,000 in funding to make their ideas become realities.
They need your help to win the grants by going to the Pepsi Refresh Project website and voting for their ideas. Here are the links:

Specifically, my idea will help All users of the sea base to have access to a functional kitchen space!
I believe my idea is unique and innovative because It has the potential to affect not just one org (BSA LB) but all base users!
One thing that might surprise people about my idea is That all scout units may use the Sea Base!

I believe my idea is unique and innovative because It promotes fitness while teaching preparation, cooperation, and courage
One thing that might surprise people about my idea is Many LBUSD students can't afford rec sports, few can make high school teams
