Although the Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Parade and Celebration are the climax of events remembering the late civil rights leader, Councilman Dee Andrews and the community have expanded the event into a week of activities to remember the man and his message. Those events kick off Saturday with the annual Peace March on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
Here's the release from the city:
In an effort to lift the consciousness of the community about Dr. MartinLuther King Jr.'s legacy and principals, Councilman Dee Andrews introduced Peace Week, a series of week-long activities designed to unify the community.
Peace Week begins with a Candlelight Peace Walk on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Please, bring your family and your friends.
Join us as we remember those whose lives have been lost by violence, as well as the many youth in our community who have a promising future.
Walk with us to show our city that we stand united. Walk with us to represent peace, love and understanding---the true essence of community. Walk with us.
