Power pole, lines broken in tree trimming accident

RANCHO CUCAMONGA -- Tree trimmers accidentally dropped a branch onto high-voltage wires Monday, breaking a pole and causing the wires to fall into a tree, fire officials said.

The private trimmers were working on Hermosa Avenue north of Hillside Road at a horse ranch about 3:30 p.m. when a branch fell onto the wires, said Rancho Cucamonga fire Battalion Chief Jim Curatalo.

The impact broke part of the power pole and live wires fell into an oak tree, but the tree did not catch on fire. The wires came close to landing on metal corrals, Curatalo said.

Southern California Edison workers came to the scene to cut power and cut the lines.
