An 11-year-old Apple Valley girl was shot in the back over the weekend while riding her bicycle in the street with friends, authorities said.

The little girl was in the 15000 block of Blackfoot Road around noon Sunday when she was shot, said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Beavers.

She was able to run home and was later airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The girl is expected to survive.

Deputies canvassed the neighborhood and discovered a bullet hole in the window screen of a home near where the shooting took place. Inside, they said they found a stolen large caliber handgun.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked at Juvenile Hall in Apple Valley.

It is unclear how the boy came into possession of the stolen firearm. Authorities said they do not believe the boy intended to shoot the girl.

I say arrest the parents, to teach them a valuable lesson - YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN'S ACTION. Suffer more than the poor victim. Prayers for the little girl.
