Crime prevention "heroes" to be honored Wednesday
The "unsung heroes" who work to prevent crime in San Bernardino County will be honored Wednesday during a Youth Awards Ceremony.
The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Commission of San Bernardino County's 24th Annual Recognition of Services to Youth Awards Ceremony will recognize non-profit groups, service organizations and individuals who support youths.
This year's winners are: the Rev. David J. Kalke, commission member Henry V. Rivas, Garden of Angels, Morongo Basin Sexual Assault Services, Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties, Youth Alternative Solutions, Program, Chief Deputy DA Karen Bell, Adelanto-based community coordinator Martin L. Chavez, County Schools Alliance for Education board member Malcolm Driggs, Chief Deputy Public Defender G. Christopher Gardner, Colton Police Officer Rich Randolph, San Bernardino Schools Reserve Police Officer Walter T. Snyder, and Young Visionaries founder Terrance L. Stone.
"We hear much throughout the year about arrests and prosecutions in our communities. This event will focus on the people who work quietly behind the scenes to prevent young people from committing their first crimes and work with young offenders to make sure they don't return to crime," said San Bernardino County Chief Probation Officer Jerry L. Harper.
