FIRE UPDATE: KCAA general manager says station lost power during fire

Dennis Baxter, general manager of the KCAA radio station and a member of the city council here, said the station lost electricity for about 30 minutes while a brush fire burned alongside the 215 Freeway.

"We lost power at the Carousel Mall. We went off (the air)," Baxter said.

Baxter said the power went out around 6:30 p.m. The station used national programming from a Texas station after losing juice.

Baxter spoke while watching television coverage of the blaze.

"I'm very concerned at all these sparks I see flying across," he said. "It's a terrible situation."

Back in his role as councilman, Baxter praised the city and other firefighters who are responding to the crisis.

"They'll put it out with all the gusto and glory that they usually do, along with help from all the other agencies that are here," Baxter said.
