Mountain lion spotted in Claremont Wilderness Park

CLAREMONT - Hikers said they spotted an aggressive mountain lion protecting her cubs in the Wilderness Park on Cobal Canyon trail at the 3-mile marker, according to the city's Web site.

Officials received information about the lion on Wednesday. State Fish and Game Wild Life Protection was told about the sighting and posted warning signs at the Marshall Canyon and Mills Avenue entries.

Hikers should always walk in pairs on the trails, officials warned. If a mountain lion is spotted, call the Claremont Police Department's emergency number, (909) 626-1296, and provide as much information as possible, including animal behavior.
