Redlands cut-a-thon to benefit breast cancer research

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and stylists at the Salon Museum are using their skills to cut the effects of breast cancer through breast cancer research.

On Sunday, the Salon Museum will host a cut-a-thon that includes haircuts, manicures, waxing, chair massages and spray-on tanning with an opportunity to meet celebrity hairstylist Laurent DuFourg. Services will be available for minimum donations that will benefit breast cancer research and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Expedition Inspiration Fund for breast cancer research.

Salon Museum stylist and breast cancer survivor Anne Hughes said she is grateful to organizations such as the Salon Museum for raising funds for breast cancer research.
"Breast cancer doesn't have to mean a death sentence, thanks to breast cancer research," Hughes said. "I'm one of the lucky ones. I didn't have to go through radiation and chemotherapy. I received proton therapy from Loma Linda (University) Medical Center."

"Breast proton therapy is the latest proton treatment available. Science wouldn't be where it is today if it weren't for new research and I am fortunate to work for an organization that supports cancer research."

The event offered a chance to win a haircut by DuFourg, founder of Prive Salons. DuFourg has styled the famous locks of such stars as "Desperate Housewives" Felicity Huffman and Teri Hatcher. Others include Salma Hayek, Tea Leoni, Gwyneth Paltrow and Johnny Depp.

Two local winners will receive the star treatment with a cut form DuFourg. Raffle winner Tara Reilly of Redlands is giving her daughter, Catherine Wirtz, the highly coveted prize.

The event will also feature a car show with a variety of classic cars, including hot rods and rat rods from the Alpha Omega Motor Sports car club. The event will also have a raffle for Prive product packages and Salon Museum will offer refreshments of baked goods and Starbucks coffee.

If you go: Salon Museum is at 507 E. Citrus Ave., Redlands. Call (909) 793-4199 for more information. The cut-a-thon is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday. Services will be offered for a minimum donation of $10.
