Suspect in Highland shooting nabbed in San Bernardino
A gunman who shot a man three times during a fight late Tuesday was arrested in San Bernardino, sheriff's officials said.
Robert Carlos Anguiano, 30, of Highland, was booked into Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on suspicion of attempted homicide.
San Bernardino County sheriff's dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at 10:45 p.m. about a man who had been shot several times while standing in his driveway.
Deputies came to the 7600 block of Central Avenue and found the victim, Jose Perez, 47, with two gunshot wounds to his upper body and one to his leg. Paramedics took him to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.
Witnesses said Perez, Anguiano and a third man were in the driveway when the suspect and victim got into an argument. Anguiano pulled out a handgun and fired several times at Perez, deputies said.
Deputies said Anguiano ran from the scene to a home on Cypress Street, stole a truck and drove from the area. The third man drove away.
San Bernardino police noticed a security guard following a reckless driver near the corner of 8th and L streets at 11:11 p.m. Police pulled over the driver and found evidence that he might have been involved in a shooting, sheriff's officials said. After police contacted Highland deputies, Anguiano was interviewed and taken into custody.
The third man who was in the driveway at the time of the shooting has not been found. Anyone with information on his whereabouts may call Sgt. James Williams, (909) 425-9793.
