Earthquake preparedness events planned this week

| | Comments (0) |

The public is invited to two Shakeout events this week to learn about earthquake preparedness.

The Great Southern California Shakeout, billed as the largest earthquake drill in history, will commence at 10 a.m. Thursday.

That is when more than 469,000 people countywide will simultaneously "duck, cover and hold on."

Preparedness tips and emergency equipments displays will be available from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Victor Valley College, 18422 Bear Valley Rd., Victorville.

On Thursday, about 300 schoolchildren are expected to tour the San Bernardino County Museum from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and go through the drill there.

The museum is located at 2024 Orange Tree Lane in Redlands.

At the museum, people can also view their home's proximity to earthquake faults with ESRI's interactive display, complete with GIS maps illustrating the location of earthquake faults in San Bernardino County.
