Hang glider breaks arm in hard landing near casino

A hang glider broke his arm and hurt his back when he made a hard landing above San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino on Saturday afternoon.

The unidentified man alerted a friend to his plight via cell phone.

He was airlifted by San Bernardino County sheriff's air rescue to a hospital.

The individual was flying a paraglider, which has a large, curved wing resembling a parachute, with the pilot suspended in a sitting position some 20 feet below. Hang gliders are roughly triangular wings with an internal frame of aluminum/carbon composite and the pilot hangs prone about 3 feet below the wing.
