RIALTO -- Metrolink has resumed normal schedules this morning between San Bernardino and Los Angeles following a collision Thursday between a freight train and a Metrolink train in Rialto.

The Metrolink train, which contained two crew members on the locomotive and 15 passengers, bumped into the rear of a westbound BNSF freight train that was pulling onto a side track west of Lilac Avenue about 11:30 a.m., officials said.

Four people complained of pain and were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Service between Los Angeles Union Station and Rancho Cucamonga continued to operate normally following the crash, but the line between Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino was not cleared until 8 p.m. Commuters heading home were provided bus service between the two cities, according to a statement on Metrolink's website.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
