San Bernardino County supervisors gave out 700 turkeys
From the county:
Thousands of deserving residents enjoyed a hot, holiday meal this Thanksgiving, due in part to the continued partnership between San Bernardino County Supervisors Paul Biane and Josie Gonzales.
This year the supervisors each allocated $4,000 used to purchase 700 turkeys.
This is the third year Biane and Gonzales have provided turkeys for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Each district office distributed 350 turkeys to churches and community-based groups that serve the residents living in their respective districts. The birds will be the main course for thousands of holiday meals or packaged in food baskets and distributed to needy individuals and families.
"This effort has been successful for the past three years because of the churches and community groups that distribute these turkeys and other food to families who may otherwise not have a Thanksgiving dinner," Biane said in a statement. "They are fantastic partners, and they truly deserve the credit for making this effort a success."

Was this "allocation" from their campaign war chests or from the taxpayer? If it was their money then good for them. If it was taxpayers money, the entire tone of the article should have been different.
IMO this is not what taxpayers money should be used for.
""IMO this is not what taxpayers money should be used for.""
That's right! All that money squandered on feeding the less fortunate should have been used in bombing some third world country into oblivion. That is the American way...
Charity is great - unless it's mandatory. A lot of people in this county are struggling, and can barely afford to pay their bills, yet alone their taxes. To take their tax money and GIVE it to churches and charities isn't charity, it's misappropriation or theft. The Board is resposible to provide for the public good, not for the few chosen by a group of do-gooders.
I could be one hell a philanthropist - if I could spend someone else's money.
The counties budget has nothing to do with the military and you know it.
The main point of my comment was about how two supervisors were singled out for this generous "giving". I asked it was their money or ours paying for the turkeys. That makes a big difference in the story. If it was their money fine, if not then I have a problem not only with the slant of the article but with that type of give away. Why only 700? What about the so called needy in the other districts? This hap hazard approach really does nothing.
You really believe that these people would not have had turkey for dinner if not for the supervisors coming to the rescue? LOL This time of year turkeys are the cheapest meat around.Even cheaper then junk food. Staters and Vons had whole turkeys under $5.00. You telling me thee people could not afford that, even on food stamps? Give me a break.
Again, enough with the bleeding heart nonsense. For once think instead of feel. Only then will problems be solved.
