the scene.
The second incident also occurred on the eastbound 210 at 6:48.
A 68-year-old woman died after she drove her Chevrolet Impala into the back of a tractor-trailer.
The woman was in the No. 3 lane traveling at an unknown speed when she swerved to avoid hitting a 2001 Ford Escape occupied by three people.
Traffic was slowing because of the earlier fatality. Traffic flow was estimated to be around 10 mph, authorities said.
The Impala was unable to avoid the collision and first struck the Escape's right rear section, authorities said. The Impala then continued to the right where it struck the back of the tractor-trailer.
The 68-year-old was declared dead at 7:11 a.m. Her name has not yet been released.
The CHP is investigating both incidents.
