Wireless antenna in Claremont park protested
The Planning commission last week denied a Claremont resident's request for additional safety measures at La Puerta Sports Park.
Joyce Sauter said she was concerned for the safety of young athletes in the park due the placement of a wireless antenna inside a light pole and construction of an underground electrical vault.
There will be a special meeting on the issue today.
City Clerk Lynne Fryman said the commission added a condition to explore shifting the location of the vault to preserve one or more of the trees.
Resident Lydia Henry had asked if all the trees near the equipment had to be destroyed to put in the wireless items.

"It will make a real difference to people who spend a lot of time up there," Henry said about leaving the trees alone.
Claremont Resident Donald Skaff asked if there would be more vaults to come if the power went off. After the commission moved on, Skaff said he also wondered how safe the equipment is.
The park is at 2430 N. Indian Hill Blvd.
The Planning Commission approved the installation more than a year ago, on Oct. 2, 2007, and on Nov. 27, 2007, the City Council upheld the commission's decision.
Because the full commission hadn't heard the original proposal, a special architectural meeting at 6 p.m. today in the council chambers will re-examine the issue.
The meeting, at 225 W. Second St., will also review the Claremont McKenna College Kravis Building site plan and proposed parking garage on Columbia Avenue between Eighth and Ninth streets.
