RCC Norco students gain access to Cal State San Bernardino
The Norco campus of Riverside Community College has joined with Cal State San Bernardino in a dual admissions agreement.
Norco campus students who take part in the agreement will automatically be admitted into the university after completing 60 semester units and maintaining a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average, said Christine Degano, the university's interim associate director.
University President Albert Karnig and Norco campus President Brenda Davis outlined the details of the agreement this week at a news conference.
"Norco students can now guarantee themselves a spot at one of our top public universities in the Inland Empire and, at the same time, take advantage of the excellent teaching and lower tuition costs here at RCC Norco for their first two years of college," Davis said in a news release.

Norco campus students each term are eligible to take one course in
their major for free at the university as part of a concurrent
enrollment program between the colleges.
Thirty-four of the university's academic departments offer transferable courses not available at the Norco campus, according to assist.org, an online student-transfer information system.
San Bernardino Valley College previously entered into a dual-admissions agreement with the university and the program proved successful, Degano said.
"It guarantees students admissions to the Cal State (campuses) because they have fully completed all the lower division courses to be eligible to transfer," she said.
The state university system has announced plans to cut enrollment by 10,000 students for the 2009-10 school year.
State budget cuts for academic funding affect enrollment rates and course offerings at universities, Norco campus spokesman Jim Parsons said.
Historically, economic downturns have resulted in higher enrollment rates at community colleges while budget cuts result in fewer classes available to students.
The Norco campus has not made any cuts to programs or course offerings, but this may change depending on the state budget in the future.
