Woman clinging to life following Fontana double shooting

A San Gabriel Valley woman remained on life support today from a shooting that had already claimed the life of an El Monte man.

The Baldwin Park victim, who was not identified, suffered life-threatening injuries in the 4:20 a.m. shooting in the 16500 block of Barbee Street on Friday, said Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker.

Anthony Duarte, 29, of El Monte died at the scene and the woman was taken to a hospital.

Police said the shooter was sitting inside the car with the victims when they were wounded.
"We believe the people in one way or another knew each other," Decker said.

He said both victims had no known ties to Fontana and no one living on the street where they were parked knew them.
