County launches $3.5-million expansion project at Barstow sheriff's station

A $3.5 million construction project is scheduled to begin this month to renovate and expand the San Bernardino County sheriff's Barstow station.

The project, which includes improvements to the parking lot, lobby and main building, will be complete in 2010, said San Bernardino County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt.

When construction is finished, the building will be 4,000-square-feet larger.

Deputies stationed in Barstow cover a 10,000-square-mile jurisdiction, which stretches from Trona, to Baker and all the way to the Nevada state line. Deputies have been in the same facility for 40 years.
