Twelve drivers were arrested during a DUI Saturation Patrol in Fontana in December.

About 140 vehicles were stopped and 42 Field Sobriety Tests were conducted between Dec. 13 and 31, according to a Fontana Police news release.

Officers assigned during the patrol also impounded 11 vehicles and issued 24 citations, police said. One additional arrest was made for a DUI warrant.

The program was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, according to the news release.

Congrats Fontana Police for a job well done. I would like to especially thank Officer Durmi for all his hard work in the field of DUI enforcement. He arrested me about a month ago. I was only a .02 which I understand to be under the legal limit. Officer Durmi helped me understand that even at .02 (one beer) I can wreck my car.

For all those idiots who just love wasting our money on DUI checkpoints, read this several times. These patrols work, not checkpoints. The typical DUI checkpoint harasses hundreds and thousands of people and rarely results in any arrests. The percentage is usually less than 1%. These patrols netted 12 out of 140 stopped! That is almost 9% of those checked. I'll say it again, stop the illegal DUI checkpoints and put my money on these types of efforts!

Hey Truth Hurts ..I know you are most likely and non tax paying illegal, So Im pretty sure you don't contribute anything towards the community..Well I mean anything other than crime..So I would like to thank the Fontana PD for their efforts. Try to remember that even if one arresst results out of these check points that a life or family was possibly saved..So go back to the rock you came out from under and Have a good one chief...

Hey Fontana EMS... Not sure where you get the non tax paying illegal bit. I pay more than my share. I hope you have someone to tell you the right way to do your job because you certainly don't use your brain!! If you actually read my post you will note that the arrests in Fontana came from moving and active patrols who target true DUIs and come up with results. Look at the stats on checkpoints and you will see they don't result in ANY DUI arrests, so your bs about "if one arrest.." is illogical, meaningless and stupid. I didn't crawl out from a rock, I'm making a valid point on using our tax dollars for good, ie arresting DUIs, versus using them to pay a bunch of cops to stand around and harass regular drivers like me and arrest no DUIs (Pomona PD checkpoint, for example). I hope your not an EMS, or my opinion of EMS techs goes way down.

I live in North Fontana. My house was broken into twice in one week. I was wipped out of all my valued postions. I am not the only one on my block. their have been cars broken into and vehicals stolen. Where is the funding to stop this. I can't understand why we spend so much money on these check points but there is no funding for all the burglarys and robberys that are happening in Fontana. Check the Fontana Blogs in the Herald and see for yourself where we need more help. My tax money should be going to a police department that PROTECS AND SERVE. Not a department that hands out tickets like meter maids! By the way that is all I got each time Fontana D.P. came to my house when I called for my burgralys. A piece of paper that had a case number and the officer said if we hear anything we will be in touch. It's been three months no one has contacted me.

Meter Maid... If you house was broken into twice in one week it was more than likely a neighbor, probably a neighborhood kid. I think what you need is a neighborhood watch. Realistically it takes a rock to break into a house, so a police officer can be driving through the area, see the burglar before he breaks in, drive away, and the burglar goes to business. Despite what you think, I would say 80-90% of all burglaries go unsolved. Unfortunately the police cannot be everywhere at once. There are hundreds of drunk drivers on the road in Fontana every night, while there are only about 1-2 burglars out at night (most on foot)…. Look at the odds…
p.s. - why are you so mad at checkpoints? They take about half a minute to go through and are not some huge hassle. They take DUIs, unlicensed drivers, and also people with warrants, guns, drugs off the street. Let's face it, if you don't have a license, you don't have insurance, and you don't belong on the road...

No one pays attention to the point I am making and everyone assumes I am hiding something. I have a job, I pay taxes, I have never been arrested for anything, I have a license, insurance, no tickets in 7 years. I am a taxpayer who sees how many police are required to man a checkpoint. I see how the Pomona PD harassed normal drivers like me and harassed the ones who complained about it (see the old news stories about the city council hearings). Look at the statistics. Checkpoints are lazy. They cost money. They harass innocent drivers and the PD uses them to harass drivers. They are against the Constitution (preventing unwarranted searches!!). Patrols like Fontana PD make more sense! And they can also help against crime while they patrol, helping people like Meter Maids.

EMS is an idiot who probably had illegal parents, i say let the people that want checkpoints pay for it out of they're own pockets, I think the DUI Patrols LIKE THE CAPTION SAYS works better.
