Gunman prompts five-hour police standoff in Ontario

| | Comments (0) |
A SWAT team surrounded a neighborhood and evacuated several homes on South Benson Avenue in Ontario this morning after a man fired a gun at a home.

Alfredo Vasquez, 32, of Ontario, held police at bay for more than five hours while police negotiators tried to get him to surrender, police said. The man was arrested shortly before 6 a.m.

The incident began at 12:46 a.m. when Ontario police received a report of a man in a travel trailer who was firing a gun into an adjacent residence in the 1900 block of South Benson.

Police tried to talk to the man, but he did not respond. SWAT officers arrived and took the man into custody on suspicion of firing into an occupied residence, being a felon in possession of a firearm and firing a gun.

There were no reported injuries.
