Three arrested, 53 ticketed during Fontana DUI checkpoint

Police arrested three people, wrote 53 tickets and impounded 39 vehicles during a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint in Fontana on Saturday.

The seven-hour checkpoint was on Foothill Boulevard west of Hemlock Avenue, police said.

Of the 1,475 motorists who traveled through the checkpoint, police stopped 99. Police impounded vehicles for various reasons, including motorists driving without a license. The three people arrested were suspected of driving while under the influence.
