Victorville brush fire extinguished by gas station attendant and sheriff's deputy

A gas station attendant and sheriff's deputy put out a brush fire in Victorville on Tuesday using a shovel and fire extinguisher, officials said.

Marv Claiborne, who works at SW Gas on Mariposa Road and Talpa Street, saw smoke when he was leaving work just before 5 p.m. and called 9-1-1. He then drove to the dirt field where it was burning south of the mobile home park at Yates and Bel Air and used a shovel to start putting out the flames, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff's news release.

When Deputy Joseph McLaughlin arrived moments later, he used a fire extinguisher from his patrol car to fully contain the blaze.
