Would-be job applicant robs check cashing business in Victorville

Sheriff's deputies are searching for a man who robbed a Victorville check cashing business after pretending to be interested in applying for a job.

The man walked into Advance America in the 17000 block of Bear Valley Road at 9:39 a.m. Monday. Employees said he wore nice clothes and requested a job application. When the manager reached for an application, the man pointed a gun at her, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.

He took the manager to the back of the business and demanded money from the safe, deputies said. He also ordered her to give him money from the cash drawers.

The robber told the woman to lay on the floor, count to 100 and not watch him leave. She did not see what direction the man left or if he fled in a vehicle.

Someone at a nearby business saw two men in the area nearby at the time of the robbery and one of the men matched the description of the robber, deputies said.

Anyone with information on the case may call the sheriff's Victorville station, (760) 241-2911 or WeTip, (800) 78-CRIME.
