Lane closures expected as $39 million Big Bear bridge project begins

Construction and Caltrans crews plan to begin work on a $39 million project to rebuild a bridge over Big Bear Dam.

The work will result in lane closures Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Highway 18 at Highway 38, Caltrans officials said. Workers will be installing concrete barriers and restriping lanes for construction.

Delays are expected to be 20 minutes or less.

The new structure will be on the south side of the dam. Officials said crews will realign the roadway, construct three 12-foot travel lanes, 10-foot shoulders and a 5-foot sidewalk on one side of the bridge. The intersection of Highway 18 and 38 will also have traffic signals, officials said.
