County supervisor's chief of staff charged with perjury
County Supervisor Neil Derry's chief of staff was arrested this afternoon on 10 felony counts related to an ongoing investigation related to failure to disclose receipts, including one for prostitution and masseuse services.
San Bernardino County District Attorney's investigators took Erwin, 46, into custody at the county government center just before noon as Erwin was leaving for lunch. He has not yet been booked into jail, but bail is expected to be set at $220,000.
He faces 11 years in state prison if convicted of eight counts of perjury by declaration and two counts of offering a false or forged instrument for filing.
On Feb. 12, Irwin filed an amended statement of economic interest with the county's Registrar of Voters.
In 2007, he received a $12,765 Rolex watch from Colonies Partners developer Jeff Burum. He also took a trip, paid for by Erwin, to New York City. The trip was valued at almost $1,600.
At the time, Erwin was working for the county Safety Employees Benefit Association. From July to Dcember 2006, he helped Burum negotiate a settlement with the county over a land dispute at an Upland Development.
The county eventually settled with Colonies for $102 million in November 2006.
In January 2007, then-Assessor Bill Postmus hired Erwin as an assistant assessor.
He held the position until November 2008, when he resigned. In September, he took the job as Derry's chief of staff.
On the same day in January that Postmus was arrested on suspicion of drug charges, District Attorney's investigators raided Erwin's home and office to serve 10 search warrants.

So I guess he got a "FREE LUNCH" instead of the one he was going to buy when he was arrested??
Neil Derry knew exactly what he was getting when he hired Erwin!Erwin has always been a self serving snake in the grass.Neil Derry is the same way.Derry used Erwins influence to get himself elected to the S.B.Co.Board of Supes. Why else would you bring on board someone with so much baggage?Derry ran for supervisor on the platform of cleaning up this county,by all appearances nothing could be further from the truth! If Derry believes in his right hand man so much ,why did he immedietly place him on leave?
