LYNWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says deputies shot and wounded a suspected drunken driver in an incident that left three deputies with minor
injuries.

Authorities say the deputies were trying to stop a suspect who had crashed after a brief pursuit Sunday night in Lynwood.

Deputy Ed Hernandez says the deputies "were injured when the suspect tried to ram them with his car in an attempt to flee the scene."

Hernandez says the deputies were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. He says the suspect was treated at the scene and hospitalized in police custody.

Hernandez could not immediately say how many deputies fired their guns or how many shots were fired.

Earlier Sunday deputies had shot and killed a suspected robber in nearby Compton.
