Fontana police arrested seven people and wrote 85 tickets during a sobriety and drivers' license checkpoint Saturday.

Police set up the checkpoint on Sierra Avenue south of Randall Avenue from 6 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.

Of the seven people arrested, three were held on suspicion of drunken driving and four had arrest warrants, police said. Police impounded 75 vehicles for various violations including driving without a license.

Simple

Make sure that you have a license
Make sure that your license is valid
Make sure that your registration is current
Don't drive drunk

No problems

Was there any indication as to why they setup an unconstitutional checkpoint in the first place? Oh and steve is correct: CACHING! It's all about that money.

I'm all for these checkpoints....keep them coming. These people shouldn't initially be on the road, and if they choose to drive while drunk, or without a valid lisence, insurance, etc., then they should be arrested.

I've actually asked my local police department to conduct more of these in my city.

It's a great crime deterrent; i'm all for it. Great for the city - great for the law abiding citizens. 4 cars in front of me got pulled over.

No kidding....I can't beleive i'm reading commments of people questioning the motive. Who cares! Did you not read the article? H-E-L-L-O! Seven people were arrested for driving drunk!

Maybe this will hit home for you. Imagine those seven still out on the road and your wife, sister, daughter, son, mother, father, whatever get's side swipped and seriously injured or killed (because we all know statistics show the drunk idiot survives). I wonder then how these people would feel.

I'm all for it. I think they should have them routinely. In fact, i'd even sign up as a volunteer a few hours on the weekends for this. I know it's strickly law enforcement but it's an idea.

Keep the dui check points coming. Get them going in Rancho. Especially off Church & Rochester or Daycreek.

I'm all for DUI checkpoints as long as they are limited to that only. I do not support any other things the officers like to find and write citations for. Vehicle safety inspections, driver's license inspections, setting up gauntlets as such...all wrong. Get the drunks off the road, yes! Violating the right to free passage, local Police setting up illegal inspections for the sake of money...no. Ontario PD seems to think they can get away with this too. CA Vehicle Code is very specific and they cannot do this legally.

I have no problem with the DUI check points. However I do have an issue with these photo enforcement points that have been placed to catch speeding drivers. Speed traps as I refer to them. I was recently in the Ft Mohave, Arizona area and found myself a victim of one of these scams. Speed limits are reduced thru a short area and then return to normal. The only benefit I can see from this is to raise revenues for the city. I think it's a chicken shit way of preying on motorists that would not normally or purposly break the law.

How can you people actually support a violation of rights as long as they arrest some drunk drivers.

Long ago a wise man once said, those who would trade freedom for security will receive neither.

Ya know to me, the principles of freedom and the bill of rights are way more important than 3 drunk drivers.

I'd rather die from a drunk driver hitting me, than to be imprisoned in a society that thinks its ok for police to violate the rights of its citizens.

Really! Really! People with your kind of thought process scare me. What about the right of a citizen not to get killed by a drunk driver, if you dont have a LICENSE you should not be driving and I dont want you on the road if you dont have insurance. We cannot have a police state I understand and dont want that put what you want is SCARY!!

It's obvious putting ALCOHOL drinking resposibilty on individual is not working. Therefore, STOPING all alcohol bottling company from selling alcohol to start with might be the most reasonable thing to do. Back to prohibition era.

Why do people drink alcohol to start with...high stress, internal pain or pleasure, may be?

There will never be a PERFECT society where nothing BAD happens, including DUI. The day we get this ideal society, there will be no need for Justice system and thus, no check point.
It's, like a ballon, squeeze it on one end, the other end swells up.
