Students are guests of Taste of Pomona

There will be some national celebrities at Monday's fifth annual Taste of Pomona event.

The event at the Avalon from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fairplex will have as special guests Village Academy High School students whose video "Is Anybody Listening?" earned them a special visit from President Obama.

The nine-minute video starring the Village Academy students speaking about the effect the troubled economy has had on their lives, became a YouTube sensation and earned special mention by President Obama in a recent address to Congress. The students have appeared on a number of broadcasts since then and met the president during his visit here in March.

Monday's event offers a cross-section of food and wines from local restaurants, a variety of exhibitors from all over the Inland Valley, live entertainment, and auction and raffles.

Taste of Pomona tickets are available for $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Tickets are available by calling the chamber office, (909) 622-1256.

Here's an idea: Hold event on a weekend. Perhaps then those of us that are employed or live in surrounding communities can more easily attend.
