UPDATE: Parent not concerned about swine flu at Claremont school

| | Comments (11) |
Ana Lopez, a parent of three children at Out Lady of the Assumption School in Claremont, said she was leaving her children in school Monday.

"We're just learning the news," Lopez said Monday morning inside the school.

Lopez, who recently traveled to Mexico with her family and had no problems, said she would just tell her children to "wash their hands."

Because the swine flu was not confirmed, Lopez said she did not want to take her children out of school.

Why take your kids out of school when it means two free meals a day and free day care to boot? Yeah, let's risk infecting everyone else at your expense.

OLA does not offer "Free" meals or "Free" Day-Care. Move along....nothing to see here....

Um Wattch Dog...Our Lady of Assumption is a Catholic school, which means no free lunch and no free day care. Get your facts straight before you reply.

I guess it was a little too much to expect that "Watch Dog" would be able to understand a simple 4-sentence story. The child who had the flu-like symptoms after a visit to Mexico has been taken out of school. The children of the woman quoted in the story have nothing to do with this incident and are not a risk to anyone. As the school was advised to stay open today by county health officials, Ms Lopez quite reasonably concluded that it was safe for her three children to finish out the day. Considering the hysterical level of coverage that this story is receiving, school parents like Ms Lopez should be commended for reacting so calmly.

Hey Watch Dog,

OLA is a private school - monthly tuition is due per child. Don't leave comments when you don't know what you're talking about. I'm 30yrs old now and went to a private elementary school-nothing was for free. Back then tuition for the school I went to was $150.00 a month per student, I can only imagine the cost of tuition in OLA, especially since it's in Claremont!

I live in Claremont, and OLA has been cleaned and tested and nothing has been found yet... even in the sick child's classroom!! All Friday masses were canceled too.. I'm glad that parents were concerned for the kids though.. but maybe this thing in Claremont is just a rumor??

OLA is a great school. None of you have the right to judge anyone. They are doing the right thing, and doing all that they can to protect their students. These teachers and priests teach their students about God and morals and values. Leave them alone please. Maybe we should all go to church more to get a different view on life if we have to sit here and bash innocent people. Thanks OLA for all that you do.
