The Upland Police Department will conduct a DUI /driver's license checkpoint from 6 p.m. Thursday until 1:15 a.m. Friday at an undisclosed location in the city.

Officers will check driver's licenses and check motorists for signs of drug and/or alcohol intoxication.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to an Upland police news release.

How Un-American. Checkpoints should not be allowed in a free and democratic nation. Checkpoints belong in the middle east and nazi Germany, not California. I am saddened at the Republican run cities who would rather see people go to jail than uphold their constitutional rights. You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves and the founding fathers would be outraged as I am.

How STUPID is that comment! Its is to PROTECT the LAW abiding citizens in this city! Such as people who do not have a license OR insurance to drive and are doing so DRUNK! These are the people who kill FAMILIES on the road! Only another irresponsible person would think differently from check points! Why are you defending people that don't abide by the law!

Check points are riddiculous and I agree with Matt!

If the Upland Police wants to find some crime they can look at westside foothill. But of course they know about the businesses there but I guess it's better for them to open a checkpoint than to deal with ongoing crime. Hey will ya take bribes at the checkpoint too or do you only take them from the businesses?

How can Upland Police Dept. afford BMW'S as police cars? Those are expensive cars and I don't understand why the city of Upland has them? Is the City of Upland that well off? I was born and raised in Upland and I'd like to know. I now live in Rancho but I sure don't see any Beamers being used by our Police Dept.?

hey dont blame the upland pd for doing their job! i totally agree that we do need more checkpoints, only because people who drink and drive are injuring/killing the people who dont! yes i know there are quite a few of you who get away but your day will come and hopefully soon.

Saturation patrols are a better use of resources than checkpoints.
