UPDATE: Parent not concerned about swine flu at Claremont school
"We're just learning the news," Lopez said Monday morning inside the school.

Lopez, who recently traveled to Mexico with her family and had no problems, said she would just tell her children to "wash their hands."

Because the swine flu was not confirmed, Lopez said she did not want to take her children out of school.

UPDATE: Claremont school releases statement about swine flu
A student and her mother, who went to Mexico this past weekend, are reportedly suffering from flu-like symptoms, according to the school news release. The student and mother have been tested for the swine flu virus, but the results of the testing are not yet available.

School officials found out about the flu late Sunday night and called the San Bernardino Health Department as well as the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Monday.

The family lives in San Bernardino County, according to the news release.

The school was advised to stay open by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and to make sure students and faculty wash their hands and cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing to avoid potential contamination, according to the news release.

Parents can take their children home from school early today and school officials are advising them to keep an eye on their children's health and report any illnesses to health officials immediately.

There will be no classes at the school Tuesday, according to the Archdiocese.

"Parents will be contacted regarding the resumption of classes, pending the outcome of the ill student's test results and further recommendations from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health," according to the news release.

Maintenance staff on the school's campus are currently cleaning the communal areas, including the school auditorium, the affected student's classroom and the rest rooms.

County investigates possible Claremont swine flu case
There are currently seven confirmed cases of swine flu in California.

"There are no confirmed cases of the swine flu in L.A. County," said spokeswoman Sarah Kissell. "Claremont is one area we are looking at."

Los Angeles County Health Services has a press conference scheduled for today at 3 p.m., Kissell added.

Meanwhile, Our Lady of the Assumption School, a Claremont private school notified County Health Services of a potential problem.

"We have been in touch with the Department of Catholic Schools and the Department of Public health and they will advise us," Bernadette Boyle said.

The principal would not comment further.

Classes remain in session today for the more than 500 students at the K-8 elementary school, according to Boyle.

A parent who declined to give his name said he received a call from the school saying a student might have swine flu.

US health officials say 40 cases of swine flu have been confirmed in the United States.

Minor decoy operation results in four citations
The four locations were Hagelbargers at Claremont Graduate University, the Doubletree Hotel, Bua Thai Cuisine and Espiaus, according to a Claremont Police Department news release.

According to the release, two minors went to 11 "on-sale" locations where alcohol can be purchased and consumed in Claremont and tried to purchase an alcoholic beverage.

Police said people who sold the alcohol to the decoys received a citation and will appear in court at a later date while their establishments would have their liquor license reviewed.

Besides having the license reviewed, the businesses could possibly have their liquor license be suspended or revoked or be fined.

Funding for the program came from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant through the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, according to the release.

Gilchrist speech canceled by Claremont restaurant
Gilchrist was set to speak at the Buca di Beppo restaurant in Claremont tonight to the local Republican Club on protecting the Mexican border from illegal immigration.

Restaurant officials told Claremont police they canceled the event because they were "not aware of the specific speaker's background," Lt. Dennis Smith said.

Gilchrist and The Minuteman Project are known for pushing for strict Mexican border control and immigration law enforcement.

The restaurant decided Gilcrest's views were not conducive with Buca Di Beppo's family atmosphere, Smith said.

Gilchrist was supposed to be at the restaurant from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

This is not the first time a Gilchrest event has been canceled. The Minuteman founder was scheduled to speak at Pomona College in 2007 but backed out at the last minute "because of an 'anarchist mindset' among Pomona students," according to the Future of Freedom Foundation Web site.
