San Manuel members among delinquent taxpayers Four San Manuel tribal members, including one who sits on the tribe's business committee, have made the Franchise Tax Board's list of the top 250 delinquent taxpayers in the state.

The board started publishing the list annually in 2007, which lists the top 250 taxpayers with liened state income tax delinquencies greater than $100,000.

Each delinquent taxpayer is notified in advance via certified mail that their names will be published on the list if they do not take action to settle their tax debt.

"It is mandated by law for us to issue it (the list), and it is to help close the $6.5 billion tax gap we have," said board spokeswoman Brenda Voet.

Deputies seek information in Highland robberies San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies are asking the public for help in capturing suspects involved in two recent robberies in the city.

The robberies, at the CVS pharmacy at 27310 Base Line Street and at Highland Liquor at 7567 Victoria Ave., both involved assailants who beat their victims.

"These suspects are aggressive and immediately these guys are becoming physical with victims who are complying with their requests," said sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller.

At about 9:45 p.m. on Easter Sunday, sheriff's officials said a Latino male asked a CVS employee to use the store's bathroom. The employee opened the door for the man and he forced his way into the back office.

In doing so, he grabbed the employee by the hair, pushed her to the ground and kicked her, keeping his back to the surveillance camera the entire time, sheriff's officials said. He got away before Highland deputies arrived, leaving with an undisclosed amount of money.

On Friday at about 9:57 a.m., two black males, one who was armed with a handgun, attacked a clerk who was stocking shelves at Highland Liquor and forced him to the back of the store, said Detective Matthew Peterson.

The men got away with two cases of cigarettes and an unknown amount of cash, Peterson said. They left in a compact, light-green vehicle, the model and year haven't been identified.

Anyone with any information on either robbery is asked to call the Highland sheriff's station at (909) 425-9793 or the We-Tip hot line at (800) 78-CRIME.

Robber takes cash from CVS Pharmacy in Highland

Sheriff's deputies are looking for a man who robbed a CVS Pharmacy in Highland on Easter.

The suspect, who was wearing a black sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head, forced himself into the manager's office in the rear of the pharmacy at 27310 Baseline Street in Highland.

He told an employee he had to use the bathroom about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's department news release. The employee opened the door for the man then turned to go back into the office.

Instead of going into the bathroom, the robber forced his way into the office, grabbed the employee by the hair and pushed her to the ground, keeping his back to the video surveillance camera the entire time.

The robber told the employee "I have a gun. If you scream, I'll kill you" as he held her down, according to the news release. He took an undisclosed amount of cash and put it into a bag before leaving the store.

Sheriff's deputies from the Highland station got to the pharmacy while dispatchers were airing the call,  but the robber had already left the area, according to the news release.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the suspect can call the Highland Police Department (909) 425-9793. Callers who want to stay anonymous can call the Wee-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME.

Highland to check for dog licenses Highland is taking a major step to curtail irresponsible pet ownership, but a new program may cost pet owners lacking dog licenses or other certificates more than $100.

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, Animal Care and Control Division today began door-to-door visits in Highland to ensure all dogs have a current rabies vaccination and dog license. The program will not address cats.

The program is slated to run until July 4. About 8,200 housing units will be visited throughout the city, said Lynda Louden, an animal licensing supervisor with the county.

Three county animal license officers will work from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and visit about 200 homes per day during the course of the program, Louden said.

The City Council adopted the approach to increase responsible pet ownership and educate residents on the benefits of pet licensure.

Chuck Dantuono, the city's director of administrative services, said another goal is to encourage pet owners to have their dogs spayed or neutered, also called having a dog altered.

"If you look at our animal control costs over the past few years, it's been increasing," Dantuono said. "If we can reduce the amount of roaming dogs through sterilization, hopefully our animal control costs will be less."
