Tomorrow's editorial today
Here's a snippet from tomorrow's editorial in The Sun, in which we take issue with the mayor's response to Friday's district attorney decision not to file criminal charges against some top city leaders in the Operation Phoenix case:
"It is so telling that the mayor's Friday missive centered around the release of the emails and his wish that the city attorney had kept the matter under the radar screen. "A more professional and legally prudent action," (Pat) Morris wrote, "would have been to confidentially refer the matter to the district attorney so the police investigation and district attorney finding could have been made without publicly besmirching the careers of city professionals."
"In other words, you voters who elected Morris, who supported Operation Phoenix, who approved a new sales tax to pay for it, are on a need-to-know basis when it comes to the program's administrative failures, with the mayor's office determining what you need to know."

Welcome to the voters within the City Limits of SB. You are now charter members of the mushroom farm. You are kept in the dark, and fed stuff that you know is not good for you. Don’t ever think you will be invited into the light where the truth be known and honest decisions are made. After all, You can’t handle the truth!!

Mr. Lambert,
We all in the community are saddened by the recent events at Operation Phoenix Centers. But, as always, the Sun is there to repeatedly kick the City over and over again when it is down. What is amazing to me is that because the City Attorney is allegedly so willing to provide you information, you print everything you get from him without any real research. And, the City Attorney is supposed to be providing legal guidance to the City, not acting like a District Attorney, which he is not and looking out for the City's liability. It is improper to leak confidential information, any attorney can tell you that. And although Mr. Penman likens himself to "watchdog" of the people, he really is a wannabe DA that couldn't get elected. Jim Penman has been City Attorney for 20 years, but yet proclaims to not be aware of the problems facing Parks. Hmmm. And why doesn't he, after 20 years, know whether or not Park and Rec staff has been properly trained in how to deal with situations that could potentially result in criminal allegations to staff? Hmm again.
Please remember where your information is coming from, don't be so eager to bash the City repeatedly and have a little balance.
