Throw in fries and a shake while you're at it
Malcolm Schwartz, our copy desk chief, points out this one from today's Sun:
"... Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Farmer Boys, 10475 Mountain View Ave., Loma Linda. All donors will receive a coupon for a free cheeseburger combo at Farmer Boys, (and) A FREE CHOLESTEROL TEST ..."

Oh WOW, a “FREE” Farmers Boys Super Duty Grande Double Whammy Deluxe Hamburger Combo WITH fries AND…AND a FREE Cholesterol test at the Blood Bank BEFORE you go and eat it. Where is the back of the line? I need some of that action. And to top it off, or to make it “OK” or to ensure you feel better after the test and burger you are but a quick hop skip and jump from Loma Linda Medical Hospital and School of Medicine. It is right up the road. What better place to eat this feast. Now that was some creative planning by someone who was thinking ahead. Perhaps they could also tell you how to get the traffic lights synchronized too so in the event this creditably delicious hamburger and fries starts an unplanned chain reaction, you can beet-feet to the ER which is known for their miracles in heart surgery a few floors up.
I must say I had to laugh aloud when I read this offer the Blood Banks have arranged. They are not too concerned about your health, they just want your blood and will go to any extreme to get it. Ya gotta love those ladies at the Blood Bank, but is their heart really in the right place?

As a long time plasma donor and someone who has issues keeping the iron up, a hamburger can boost your iron level enough to donate!
In response to Reader Bob's comment about the Blood Bank employees: I think most of them are there for the right reasons but even more important is the fact that lives are saved by a simple donation.
I started donating years ago after a loved one was saved by multiple transfusions. Why? If those individuals had not donated he would have died. I donate for that reason. It takes less than two hours out of your life every six weeks - and what is a hamburger every now and then? At least they are trying to say "thank you".

Oh Molly, you missed the point of my humor completely. But that is OK. BTW, my wife is a super donor and has been for many years. I believe in the cause and what is being done but also I believe in a smile too. Try it!!
