Hardy Brown on the police union
Notable perspective by my friend Hardy Brown, co-publisher of the Black Voice News, on the troubles hovering around San Bernardino Police Chief Mike Billdt. It's at the end of Hardy's weekly column in the BVN, in which he also challenges Berdoo schools to step it up when it comes to African American students.

Steve:
This is just a nonsensical editorial by Brown that is completely illogical.
I am not even sure where to begin.
First he dismissively derides the POA as "being at it again". When was the last time the SBPOA took a vote of no confidence on the chief?
He then intimates that the vote is coming on the heels of supposed action whereby the chief is holding officers accountable?
When Brown speaks of Billdt holding officers accountable, he must be referring to officers like Sgt. Brad Lawrence, right? The same guy who was alleged to have committed criminal acts against a black member of the community by...ahem...a member of the SBPOA!
What did Billdt do? Nothing. He allowed Lawrence to stay on the beat and commit even more egregious acts.
And Hardy Brown is pretty quiet about the Dorjils investigation or lack thereof...
Of course, the fact that Chief Billdt and Mayor Morris promised to investigate the matter thoroughly and then subsequently sweep it under the rug is ignored by Brown.
Brown states that "any action by the chief is viewed in a favorable light by us". Really?
Then Brown incredulously seeks to pass the blame on the Police Officers' Association and absolve Chief Billdt of any responsibility for these supposed transgressions that he laments.
Last time I checked, the police chief was where the buck stop. It is pretty convenient to suggest that POA is responsible, instead of the Chief and the Mayor.
Mr. Brown...in case you weren't aware. Mayor Morris hires and fires the Chief of Police. And in case you weren't aware, the Chief of Police controls the day to day operations of the department.
Your mini-rant is illogical and baseless and quite frankly...embarrassing.

Joseph,
Could you please clarify for me? Are you still employed by the POA? I had heard that you are no longer working for them, but it would put your comments in a different light depending upon the answer...thanks.

I am no longer working for the SBPOA.
Long before I started working for the POA I articulated my criticisms of Mayor Morris and Chief Billd. And I will continue to do so.
Financial gain was never the motivation behind my work with the POA.
As a resident of the city, I am deeply saddened by our underachievement and out of control crime problem. We have enormous potential and resources at our disposal.
Without getting into too much detail, Operation Phoenix is not a benefit to our community. It is illogical to argue, as the Mayor has, that this program is going to begin some sort of long term restoration or rehabilitation of a disadvantaged section of our society.
You cannot implement longterm crime prevention programs in this community because the population is very fluid.
When my parents were drug addicts and on the run from the police, I went to seven schools in two years.
This is the problem with "limosine liberalism". It is a bunch of failed policies masked behind the pleasure and emotional self-gratification of "good intentions".

Joseph Turner recently became an associate of the POA because they hired him. This guy is being fed the twisted and spun information by the POA and their top leaders. He has bought into it and if he is a man of honor and integrity someday his heart will sink in shame. The twisted corrupt agenda of the POA and some retaliation driven dysfunctional employees past and present that has also now morphed into the political arena is sickening.

TWP:
My criticisms of Chief Billdt and his management of the department were expressed long before I had any relationship with the SBPOA.
I wrote about the Chief on the Red County blog.
Nobody has spoonfed me or spun me up on anything.
Nice try.
