Rialto's signs of the times

Hmmmm. Seems the Rialto City Council waited until after our reporter left last night's meeting to meet a deadline to vote on a proposal to commemorate Congressman Joe Baca on their "Welcome to Rialto" signs. Interesting because: 1) it was not listed as an agenda item, and 2) our reporter was assured that there would be no vote, only a discussion.

On the surface, honoring Baca on city signs doesn't seem like a big deal. Countless communities do it. But shouldn't we be a little bit more above board about it?

Awwwww Steve you got it all wrong!! I was there and the reporter saw what happened, he just did a bad job of reporting the facts. You should consider assigning him to cover Baker or Trona, get him out of the IE. The real interesting discussion addressed the many named parks, schools, train station etc. places that were not under any scrutiny of a guideline when a person was honored. So why now? Because it is Congressman Baca? A Latino who has distinguished himself as the 52nd most powerful person in Congress? The IE has never had such a powerful and influential person in Washington. Heck, one of our parks is named after a disgraced county supervisor and the train station is named after a former mayor who refuses to live in Rialto. Steve, it's time you and the Sun Newspaper staff stop mixing politics, discrimination, poor reporting, personal agendas, misinformation and other bad ingredients in the same pot...your spiel stinks to high heaven! Start being fair with the Congressman.

I was personally shocked that the Mighty SB Sun even bothered to mention Rialto! Since obviously nothing newsworthy ever happens in our city, why should the Sun bother covering it at all? At least, that's the way it appears to a new reader of the Sun (And even more so on this web site!). Colton, Fontana, Redlands and San Bernardino are mentioned on a daily basis, but Rialto? Only crime reports and faux-awards to politicians who have done nothing good for the city. Psst, Steve! Your politics are showing!
