Smoke bombs in the marijuana debate

Dems and Republicans have nothing on the two warring sides of the medical marijuana debate. The Marijuana Anti-Prohibition Project post this call to action on its web site, in response to an op-ed piece that appeared in Tuesday's Sun.

EVERY BODY NEED MARIJUANA TO RELAX

As someone who a) has never as much as smoked a cigarette nor used an illegal drug ever, b) has spent the last nine years of my life working a substance abuse caseload, c) is a very conservative Republican, and d) strongly supports law enforcement, I cannot believe I'm on the side of this issue I'm on. As far as I'm concerned the county is just plain wrong in their stand against medical marijuana.

The argument that drug abuse kills/harms millions is valid. But that drug abuse includes alcohol and prescription pain killers, neither of which are illegal and both of which result in a tremendous amount of deaths and economic loss.

I cannot for the life of me understand how chemically based pain relievers are preferable over a natural pain reliever. I can say I've worked with many substance abusers whose drug of choice was codeine, vicodin, or alcohol. I've never had a client addicted to marijuana. That's not to say it doesn't happen; that's only to say that my experience is that addiction to legal drugs has been the norm along with meth, heroin , pcp, coke, etc., just not MJ.

In light of the revelations about what is alleged to have happened in the hallowed halls of the BOS, it seems they need to stop with this hypocracy.
